Artist Statement
Ilay's work moves through the emotional weight of life and death - between presence and absence, memory and forgetting. Influenced by Middle Eastern culture and her personal experience of migration, her work explores what it means to carry a homeland within you while building something new. Cycles are at the heart of her work: cycles of identity, loss and the constant transformation of the self. Her works are based on the human experience - femininity, heritage and the personal history that shapes us. Through shifting forms and multi-layered meanings, she explores how the past resonates through the present, and how we hold both grief and growth simultaneously. Azoulay's creative process is intuitive, often guided by emotion rather than concept. Her work does not offer a solution - instead, it invites contemplation, a sitting with the feelings.

Ilay Azoulay (born 2000, Israel) is a visual artist based in Miami. Her work focuses on the emotional and cultural experiences of life, death, and identity. Influenced by her childhood in the Middle East and her journey as an immigrant to the United States, she creates in a variety of mediums, reflecting on life, death, memory, and transformation.
